HaitcH is the working name of Howard Hamilton, a photographer based in New Windsor, New York.
I photograph people the way I would want to be photographed — unposed, usually from a distance, in whatever light is actually there. Most of the work on this site was made by waiting rather than directing. If that is the kind of record you want of an occasion, a team or your family, I take commissions.
Events
Parties, milestones, community gatherings. I work quietly and mostly from the edges, and you will notice me less than you expect. What comes back is what the day actually looked like — the conversations, the lulls, the people who had forgotten there was a camera — rather than a sequence of arranged group shots. I will happily take direction on the handful of posed frames most occasions need.
Portraits and family sessions
On location rather than in a studio: at home, outdoors, wherever people are comfortable. I do not work from a shot list. I would rather spend the time letting everyone forget the camera is there — the Portraits gallery is what that approach produces.
Teams and sport
Match-day coverage for adult leagues and clubs: the action, the bench, and the moments either side of the whistle. I shoot with available light and I know how a game moves, so I am reading the play rather than chasing the ball up the touchline. The Sports gallery is recent work.
Prints
Most of the photographs on this site are available as prints, signed on request. Tell me which frame and roughly what size, and I will come back with papers, dimensions and pricing. Printed to order and shipped from New York.
Two things worth saying plainly. Where someone is clearly identifiable and has not agreed to their photograph being sold, the frame is not for sale — that mostly affects the Sports gallery, and I would rather tell you why than quietly decline. And a print is sold for private display: it carries no right to reproduce the image, and it cannot be used in advertising or any other commercial context.
Where I work
New Windsor and the Hudson Valley as standard, New York City and further afield for the right commission. Travel outside the region is quoted separately.

Photographs I take for you are yours. Nothing from a commission appears on this site or anywhere else unless you have specifically agreed to it, and that agreement is never a condition of booking.
